Can I add more evidence after filing my I-589?
Last reviewed: August 24, 2026
General information only. Submission methods and deadlines depend on the agency and case. Follow current official instructions and case-specific orders.
Additional evidence may be submitted after an I-589 is filed, but the method and deadline depend on whether the matter is with USCIS or EOIR and on instructions or orders in the particular case. Do not assume the same procedure applies in both systems.
Keep new evidence in a dated intake folder. Preserve the original, identify its source, obtain a complete English translation when required, and record what fact or event it relates to. Keep proof of any later submission.
Before submitting, check the current agency instructions, appointment notice, court order, or Immigration Judge deadline. For immigration court, EOIR filing and service rules apply, and an Immigration Judge may set case-specific deadlines. For USCIS, follow the current asylum-office and Form I-589 instructions.
This page is about organizing later evidence, not deciding what a person should submit or whether a particular item is legally sufficient.
