After filing Form I-765, keep enough records to show exactly what you submitted, when it was submitted, and what USCIS did next.
Keep the filed application
Save the final signed or electronically submitted Form I-765 and every supporting document. If you filed online, save or print the submission confirmation. If you mailed it, keep the carrier receipt and tracking result.
Keep every USCIS notice
Store the receipt notice, biometrics notice if one is issued, Requests for Evidence, transfer notices, approval or denial notice, and any other correspondence with the same I-765 file.
The receipt number is especially important because it is used to track the case and make inquiries.
Preserve payment proof
If a fee applied to your filing, keep the payment confirmation or other proof. Fee rules can change, so the payment record should show what happened in your filing rather than relying on today's fee schedule later.
When the EAD arrives
Scan the front and back of the card and keep the approval notice. Check the name, category, and validity dates. If USCIS made a typographical error, use current USCIS correction guidance rather than altering the card yourself.
Keep old EADs
Do not discard an expired EAD merely because a new one arrives. Prior cards can help document immigration and employment-authorization history and may be requested in later filings.
