Immigration fees and payment procedures can change. For attorney review, preserve what actually happened in your case rather than trying to reconstruct payment history from today's fee schedule.
Keep government payment records
Include payment confirmations, USCIS or EOIR receipts, fee notices, fee-waiver decisions if applicable, online payment confirmations, and correspondence about a rejected, returned, missing, or late payment.
If a payment relates to a particular form, appeal, motion, or annual fee, label it with the related case or filing so the attorney can match the money record to the procedural event.
Save the notice that triggered the payment
A receipt by itself may not explain why a fee was due. Keep the government notice, invoice, or filing instruction that identified the amount and deadline together with the payment proof.
Record dates and method
Your index can show: agency; form or fee type; notice date; amount requested; date paid; payment method; confirmation number; and the file containing the proof.
Do not place full card or bank account numbers in a general attorney index. Preserve sensitive payment records securely.
Current fees are unusually important to verify
Fee rules have changed substantially, including asylum-related fees and EOIR payment procedures. Verify the current government source before making a new payment. Do not use an old receipt to determine what is due today.
